Young Asian Reporters (YAR) network is part of Asian Media Information and Communication Centre’s (AMIC’s) youth wing, which was launched as a follow up of the 2nd ASEAN Media Forum held in Bangkok 2010. This is an online portal for young communicators to share news and develop their journalistic skills. It is partnered with NAM News Network (NNN) coordinated by Malaysia’s Bernama News Agency and United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). This platform is essentially useful for all those students who are aspiring to be part of the global media. It will provide them with a holistic education and a fantastic opportunity for those who aspire greater avenues to develop a career in international journalism.

This network aims at motivating students to contribute news stories and have it disseminated to a global audience by a reputed news agency.

GUIDELINES

“YAR Network” is handled by Asian Media Information and Communication Centre in Singapore. We hope that you will enjoy sharing your work in a productive and healthy manner. Please note that any content that contains the following will be considered inappropriate:
Plagiarism, inflammatory and/or hate speech, libelous statements, spam, advertising and promotional content, misrepresentation of identity, racist comments, copyright violations.
All your work must be submitted to
yar@amic.org.sg.

Young Asian Reporters is a platform created for youths across the Asian region to voice out their ideas to a global audience. Hence, if you have a story worth of being heard, seen or read, do not hesitate to send it to us!  You can send your work to us and get professional feedback in addition to getting it published in YAR. Best articles will also be published in Non-aligned News Network (NNN) coordinated by Malaysia’s Bernama News Agency. If you aspire to be part of the global media then join us now!

We will edit your stories to ensure consistency through out the site in terms of style. Please note that YAR will not edit/change the content of your original story ideas at any point. Do keep in mind the following when you submit your stories.

A) Guidelines for submission of feature stories

  1. Your submission should be between 500-1,200 words depending on the topic and style.
  2. Please ensure that you use U.K. English in your stories.
  3. Each article should contain a title, location and your full name at the top and the word count at the bottom of your story.
  4. Please use Arial (11 point) throughout the story and single-spaced. Paragraphs should not be indented.
  5. Please ensure that you use APA style guide for in-text citations and references (if applicable).
  6. Try to make use of interview quotations in your feature when required.
  7. At the end of your story you should also provide your contact details for us to get back to you in the future once your story is published in the YAR Network (contact details should include, name of your school/university, your email address and your contact number). Please note that we keep all the information private and confidential.
  8. Your stories should be of common interest to all (it can be health, gender, culture, environment, globalization, new media etc).


B) Guidelines for submission of audio files
  1. All audio files should be between 1-10 minutes of total duration.
  2. Any of the following file formats are accepted: WAV or MP3.
  3. You should submit a one-page document giving a brief introduction to your
    audio, along with your contact details (name, email address, contact number,
    your school/university) and a transcript of the audio file.
  4. In cases where the audio is not in English, please submit an English
    translation (word document) of it along with the original audio file.
  5. Your audios must be of common interest to all (it can be health, gender,
    culture, environment, globalization, new media etc).
  6. Please refrain yourself from using copyright materials in your work.


C) Guidelines for submission of video files

  1. All videos must be between 2-8 minutes in total duration.
  2. Any of the following file formats are accepted: WMV, AVI, MOV, MPEG, FLV
  3. You should submit a one-page document giving a brief introduction to your video, along with your contact details (name, email address, contact number, your school/university) and the script of your video.
  4. In cases where the video is not in English, please submit an English translation (word document) of it along with the original video file.
  5. Your videos must be of common interest to all (it can be health, gender, culture, environment, globalization, new media etc.
  6. Please restrict yourself from using any copyright violation material in your video.
  7. Your videos can be submitted via yousendit.com to us.
